Associate, Development (Fundraising)

Position Summary:
In its basic form, the role is to support fundraising efforts. However, the role can go much beyond that including looking for creative and new avenues for funding. The Associate will be given a lot of ownership of projects and work allowing for a lot of personal growth and satisfaction. The celebration when a big donor gets converted because of relentless efforts is unparalleled!
Team Overview:
The Development team is responsible for raising funds for the operations of Teach For India. Development is one of the critical backbones of the organizations as the organization is completely dependent on donations in its current form. The Development team needs to be abreast with everything happening in the organization and the education sector as a lot of time is spent in creating and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.

The national team also provides tools and support to individual cities and the Expansion team in its fundraising efforts.

The Development team is divided into 9 work streams by different sources of funding that Teach For India receives. Some of these include Corporates, Foundations, Individual Giving, Retail Giving, Online, Events, among others.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Prospect research, portfolio management and managing gift operations for donors in each work stream
  • The Associate will be required to support these funding streams in addition to managing one of these work streams independently
  • The Associate will also support the Managers/Director with additional research as and when required
  • The Associate may also have the opportunity to manage interns and Fellows working on specific projects under their work stream
Additional Responsibilities:
  • As a part of the Development team, the Associate will make several external contacts. These should be appropriately shared with the Recruitment, Alumni and Communications teams who also deal with external stakeholders
  • The Associate might also be required to help during selection of new Fellows and job placements of graduating ones
  • Volunteering in classrooms is highly recommended to keep in touch with why we do what we do
Knowledge and Technical Skills:
  • Strong Excel, Word and Powerpoint skills
  • Communication skills, especially writing

Education and Experience:
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience preferablyin a role which required writing proposals and reports i.e consulting, research, legal, etc
  • Graduate in any stream
