Vision for the Role:
Talent is one of the key enablers for the change that Teach For India envisions bringing about in the education landscape. It’s imperative that the Talent practices allow our people to unleash their greatest potential. Reporting to the COO, the Director of Human Resources will help set and guide the Talent Strategy for Teach For India’s most significant growth phase so far (Phase 3), as well as beyond.
The individual will create and shape the strategies for Talent acquisition, Development and Engagement and Retention. He/she will lead the organization design to maximize the potential of every individual and create structures that foster collaboration, better decision making and clear regional and national division of labour.
The Director of Human Resources will also facilitate an environment where the core values of Teach For India are demonstrated and reinforced.
Team Overview:
Currently Teach For India has ~ 250 staff members and the Human Resources team (6 people in the center and 7-10 in the cities) is responsible for hiring, developing and engaging this diverse, multi-talented and very passionate pool of people. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg as the team engages with people who may or may not even have heard about Teach For India and plants seeds therein. The team also aims to ensure that any staff member’s journey does not end with moving on from Teach For India, but that they continue to be lifelong champions for the movement even as Staff Alumni. Poised as we are at this inflection point, knocking on the doors of Phase 3, there are exciting and challenging times ahead for Teach For India and for the Human Resources team!

Staff to be leaders in the movement
  • Manage the performance management processes such that managers are coached on effective goal setting, feedback mechanisms and drive a high-performance culture therebyreadying staff ready to participate in the larger movement
  • Design and communicate growth and career progression options and shift the curve on longevity for staff
Talent Infrastructure todrive staff engagement
  • Create HR processes and systems to embody Teach For India core values to enhance staff experience and engagement
Organisation design – structure that enables people to have maximum impact
  • Design a structurethat fosters collaboration, innovation and rational decision making
  • Facilitate mapping of talent by competency and interest
  • Work with City Directors to define HR support for both staff and Fellows and drive culture aligned to central guidelines
Additional responsibilities:
  • Being part the Leadership Team and bring forth Talent trends to the Vertical Heads’ group and the Board
  • Participating in cross vertical projects when needed
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, relationship building, consulting, teamwork and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously with tight time frames
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to analyse trends and propose recommendations

Education and Experience:
  • Graduate/ Post graduate with 8+ years HR experience in a growth environment
  • Previous experience managing projects and teams to successful outcomes
