Alumni Impact

Teach For India prepares Fellows for life after the Fellowship from the first very first day of their two year experience. Fellows develop the skills and mindsets to accelerate their path towards our mission through a number of structures and experiences.

Action Curriculum

The Action Curriculum consists of four optional courses during their second year in which Fellows learn about how to effect change from within any given sector of interest:

  • Social Entrepreneurship
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Government and Political Advocacy
  • Education and School Leadership

Each substantive course includes theoretical and practical elements during a two-day intensive session supplemented by expert speakers, discussions, and independent readings. Each course is designed to help guide career decisions and prepare Fellows to succeed in the field of their choosing.

Leadership Forums

Leadership Forums are regularly scheduled events which allow Fellows to interact with notable leaders in all fields. Past speakers include Aamir Khan, Aditya Natraj, Geet Sethi, Harsh Mandar, Hillary Clinton, Jerry Rao, Kiran Sethi, Nachiket Mor, Pervin Verma, Roopal Shah & Anand Shah, Rahul Bose, Venkat Krishnan, Wendy Kopp, and William J. Burns.

Career Design

Teach For India facilitates the delivery of core professional skills and counseling related to the job search process. This includes the following components:

  • Communication skills
  • Interviewing skills
  • CV writing
  • Marketing the Teach For India experience
  • Access to a growing alumni network

Teach For India will also provide Fellows with the opportunity to work with a mentor.

Be The Change Community Leadership Project

The Be the Change project is an opportunity for Fellows to extend their impact beyond the classroom to the school and/or community. Each Fellow owns and implements a project directed towards tackling a challenge that hinders the achievement of their students. These projects could range from setting up a community library to instituting a parent literacy program. Fellows will create innovative and sustainable solutions to the problem. To effectively execute the project, Fellows research and plan, invest stakeholders, troubleshoot the project in its execution phase, and chart out a sustainable transition plan.

By designing, implementing and managing a small-scale, sustainable project within the school community, Fellows hone their transferable leadership and project management skills. Fellows also develop a deep understanding of the varied  barriers to achievement, and the complex problems associated with achieving equity in education. This experience shapes and guides the methods that Fellows will adopt in their short and long term efforts towards eradicating educational inequity.

Summer Internships

During the summer between years one and two of the Fellowship, Fellows are provided an excellent opportunity to explore career interests, develop professional contacts, and apply skills they have learned in the classroom. Teach For India encourages Fellows to pursue summer internships and maintains relationships with a diverse array of organizations across sectors to support Fellows in securing positions.
