Theory Of Change

In order for the country to achieve educational equity for all children, we need a movement of leaders across all sectors that are committed to, and will work towards, ensuring that every child in India receives an excellent education.

Because of this, Teach For India believes in a two part Theory of Change:

  • The Fellowship: Teach For India recruits India’s most promising college graduates and high performing young professionals to serve as full-time teachers in low-income schools for two years. Fellows work tirelessly to bridge the immense gaps their children face, putting their students on a fundamenatally different life path. Through the Teaching as Leadership framework, Teach For India staff provide training and support to Fellows so that they can employ innovative teaching strategies to maximize their effectiveness in the classroom. The Fellowship revolves around four spheres of transformation:
      1. Transformation of Self: Fellows develop an awareness of their strengths and areas of opportunity as they develop into reflective leaders
      2. Transformation of Class: Fellows create classroom visions that include ambitious goals in the following areas: Significant academic gains for every student, Key values and mindsets, Pathways to opportunities and Student aspirations and interests
      3. Transformation of School and Community: In year two, Fellows build deep relationships with key community stakeholders toconceptualize and execute a “Be The Change Project”, extending their impact beyond their classroom to the school and community.
      4. Transformation of Country: After two years of unprecedented exposure to the daunting challenges of our education system, fellows develop the knowledge and leadership capabilities to have a deep impact on the mission from various sectors of society.
  •  The Alumni Movement: Teach For India Alumni are a powerful and growing leadership force. Informed by their experiences and insights, the alumni movement works from inside and outside the educational system to effect the fundamental, long-term changes necessary to ultimately realize educational opportunity for all.  In the next five years, Teach For India will focus on supporting Alumni to become proof points of excellence across prioritized, urgent areas of need including school leadership, teacher training, curriculum and assessment, corporate social responsibility and media. Teach For India Alumni stay connected to each other and to Teach For India, working towards eliminating inequity across every part of India.
