India’s Educational Crisis

India is facing one of the worst educational crisis in the world. The recent PISA test ranking, where India ranks 73rd out of 74 countries tested, reaffirms the magnitude of the crisis.

  • About 4% of India’s children, which is close to 8 million, never go to school.
  • Of the children that do go to school, only 58% of them reach Grade 5.
  • Only 10% of children have access to college.

Education goes beyond writing one’s name or merely enrolling in a school. It is the key to transforming the nation.Teach For India believes that in order for all children to achieve an excellent education, we need a movement of leaders who will work from across sectors, towards ending inequity in education.
